Shift Your Money Mindset To Fulfil Your Purpose

Abundance Blog - Shift Your Money Mindset To Fulfil Your Purpose

You might think that words such as 'money' and 'purpose' should not be used in the same sentence. There is a common assumption that anyone who is living an authentic life to fulfil their purpose, should not be interested in money or wealth or material possessions.

The misused phrase "money is the root of all evil" leads many to think this way, that money and purpose should not be connected.

If you reframe this notion and start to see money as just a tool to be used, then it starts to feel a little different.  Money is just another tool to draw on to achieve your life's mission. How would that feel?

To help shift your money mindset to fulfil your purpose, consider the following:

Define your ultimate goal to fulfil your purpose

What do you want to do with your life? Chances are it involves our idea of financial freedom.  It involves not being weighed down with debt just to have a bigger and better house or car than your friends and family.

Do you want to be an artist? A writer? Set up a healing and wellness business? Run guided tours to exotic places?

What will make your heart sing? When you know this, you will know what your ultimate goal is.

What do you need to reach your ultimate, purpose-driven goal?

Can you draw on the skills and resources that you already have? Do you need to learn any new skills or buy anything before starting?

This could be as basic as purchasing accounting software to support your new business, attending networking conferences, or commissioning a website.

Money is an essential tool that enables you to get the resources and skills needed to reach your goals.

As well as making yourself a list of the things that money can help you acquire to make your purposeful life a reality, you'll also need to set aside your fears of what people might say. You need to believe that you can fulfil your purpose; no one else needs to have this belief.

Reject the notion of self-denial

The old notion of fulfilling a purpose means that you can not enjoy the benefits of financial and time freedom are outdated.

Did you know that when Michelangelo died, he left a large fortune? And Leonardo da Vinci became a wealthy man. This wealth did not prevent either man from achieving a worthy purpose in life.

Whilst there is no need to punish yourself for living the life you want, a life of financial freedom, you do need to be realistic about money.  Money (income) is required to provide you with food and shelter and keep you clothed.

There's no shame in being able to provide for your own needs and your family's needs.

Define why money is important to you

Think of money as a possibility, a means of opening doors and creating new opportunities.

Even if you don't want to give up your day job, you can positively impact the world in how you choose to spend your money.

As well as supporting local and international charities, you can choose environmentally responsible energy sources and food suppliers. Buy local and support your town's businesses and artists.

No matter what you choose to do or who you choose to be, money can be a powerful tool to positively impact the world and fulfil your purpose.
