How To Achieve Your Financial Resolutions

Personal Finances - How To Achieve Your Financial Resolutions

Whether it's becoming healthy, building your business, or taking control of your finances, we often start the New Year with improvement goals. But unfortunately, many of these noble resolutions don't last the winter.

So, how do we make New Year's resolutions that we can stick to, especially when it comes to taking control of our finances to improve our wealth?

Here's my list of simple strategies to help you make and keep your financial resolutions (or sort out your finances!)

1. Reflect on your spending

Take a look back at how you spent your money in 2021. Spending is one of the best ways to consider what you might do differently with your money in 2022. So now is a great time to evaluate what is still worth spending money on and determine what can be reduced, replaced, or eliminated in your budget. And if you don't have a budget, it's also a great time to create one.

2. Make a plan to pay down debt

Creating a debt repayment plan, particularly concerning consumer debt (think personal loans and credit cards!) so that you can unshackle yourself from your past is a must. The amount you can allocate to this endeavour should align with your budget. You'll need to strike a balance between paying off debt and ensuring you can survive in the present. Everyone's financial circumstances are different, so the key to this plan is to be sure to devise a plan of action that's best for you.

3. Set a savings goal

Whether starting a business, saving for your children's education, or building an emergency fund, it's essential to set a target for how much you need to save monthly to reach your primary financial goal comfortably. Knowing that number can give you peace of mind and set a realistic budget.

Whatever your financial goals are for the coming year, don't try to tackle them all at once. Instead, break them down into bite-sized chunks.
